A disaccharide-hexitol has been isolated from Micromonospora (Actinomycetales) cell walls by partial acid hydrolysis occurring during trichloroacetic acid extraction. The disaccharide-hexitol has been shown by permethylation, acid and enzymatic hydrolysis, periodate oxidation and mass spectrometry to have the structure indicated in the title.
