The structure of latosillan was elucidated by a degradative study and NMR spectral analysis. This revealed that latosillan is a heteroglycan composed of repeating units of the pentasaccharide, →2)-β-d-Man-(1→2)-{β-d-G1CNAC-(1→4)}.-α-l-Rha-(1→4)-α-l-Rha-(1→4)-α-l-Rha-(1→, shown in Fig. 1.
