  The new iridoid glucoside ester 10-(E)-feruloylaucubin (acuminatuside) along with the known iridoid glucosides eurostoside, 10-(Z)-p-coumaroylaucubin, lytanthosalin, 8-epiloganin, mussaenoside, gardoside methyl ester and the glucosides picein and salidroside have been isolated from the stems of Penstemon acuminatus. The structures have been elucidated primarily on the basis of NMR spectroscopy. The assignments of the NMR signals were performed by means of 1H1H COSY-45° and 1H13C COSY experiments.

  From the aerial parts of Phlomis grandiflora var. grandiflora, a new phenylethanoid glycoside, phlomisethanoside, was isolated together with the known compounds, verbascoside, phlomoside A, 8-epiloganin, citroside and benzyl alcohol β-D-glucoside. The structure of the new compound was elucidated by spectral analyses.

  Lantana camara L. is regarded both as a notorious weed and a popular ornamental garden plant and has found various uses in folk medicine in many parts of the world. Some taxa of the widely variable L. camara complex are toxic to small ruminants and this effect has been associated with the types and relative amounts of some triterpene ester metabolites. However, L. camara also produces a number of metabolites in good yields and some have been shown to possess useful biological activities. All these aspects are considered in this review to allow an evaluation of the potential for utilisation of the large biomass of Lantana available. The phytochemistry of other members of the Lantana genus is included.

  From the leaves of Phlomis aurea, two new iridoids of unique structures named 3-epiphlomurin (1) and phlomurin (2), a new megastigmane glucoside phlomuroside (3) and a new benzyl alcohol glycoside having the structure benzyl alcohol-O-β-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-glucopyranoside (4) have been isolated together with four known iridoids auroside, lamiide, 8-epiloganin and ipolamiide, two known phenolic glycosides acteoside (verbascoside) and syringin, one known phenylethanoid glycoside 2-phenylethyl-O-β-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-glucopyranoside, one known lignan liriodendrin and three known flavonoids chrysoeriol-7-O-β-glucopyranoside, acacetin-7-O-β-glucopyranoside and luteolin-7-O-β-glucopyranoside. The structures of the isolated compounds were verified by means of mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral analyses.
