  From the seeds of Tabernaemontana cymosa ( = T. psychotrifolia) 17 indole alkaloids and six lignan glucosides were isolated, besides triacylglycerols, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, lupeol, (+)-lyoniresinol, obtusifoliol, sweroside and a glucoside of 3-O-methylgallic acid. 9-(β-d-Glucopyranosyloxy)-tetrahydroalstonine, 9-(b-D-glucopyranosyloxy)tetrahydroalstonine,lignan glueosides,(+)-5,5'-dimethoxy-9-O-(b-D-glucopyranosyl)lariciresinol, (-)-2a-O-(b-D-glucopyranosyl)lyoniresinol, and 3-O-(b-D-glucopyranosyl)-5-O-methylgallic acid are described for the first time. Structural determination is based on spectroscopic studies and/or on comparison with authentic compounds. Some of the isolated substances exhibited significant antifungal and/or cytotoxic effects

  Five new triterpene glucosides, quadranosides I-V (1-5), have been isolated from a MeOH extract of the seeds of Combretum quadrangulare, together with 13 known compounds. The structures of compounds 1-5 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Among the new triterpene glucosides, three compounds (1, 2, 5) showed significant hepatoprotective effects against D-galactosamine (D-GalN)/tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-induced cell death in primary cultured mouse hepatocytes.
