A hypoglycemic principle of Aconitum carmichaeli roots, aconitan A, a glycan having a molecular weight of ~8700, is shown by physico-chemical and chemical examinations to be composed of α-(l→6)-linked D-glucopyranose residues with three branching points at O-3.
