A novel triterpene saponin (1) was isolated from an ethanol extract of the root bark of Aralia dasyphylla. Its structure was elucidated as 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→3)-β-D-galactopyranosyl(1→2)]-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-oleanolic acid-28-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, according to spectral and chemical evidence. Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity against KB and Hela-S3 cells.
