The roots of Vincetoxicum hirundinaria yielded the known pregnane glycosides cynatratoside E and cynatratoside C and three new pregane glycosides: hirundicoside B, hirundicoside C and hirundicoside D. Their structures have been elucidated by spectral data. Other isolated constituents: 2-hydroxyacetophenone, paenol, apocynine, 4-hydroxyacetophenone, 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone, hancolupenone, sitosterol and syringic acid. 2-Hydroxyacetophenone was also identified as the major constituent of the essential oil by GC-MS.
