Teichoic acids from the cell wall of Actinomadura madura INA 00018 (=ATCC 19425)T were studied.The isolated teichoic acids displayed an unusual structure and were composed of glycosyl-12-glycerol phosphate units in which glycerol C(3)-atoms and glycosyl C(6)-atoms were bound by a phosphodiester bond.The glycosyl residue was galactose or 3-O-methylgalactose (madurose).
