The synthesis of the repeating unit of the O-antigen of the lipopolysaccharide from Aeromonas salmonicida in the form -D-D-Glcp-(13)-[-D-ManpNAc-(14)]-L-Rha (17) and -D-Glcp-(14)--D-Glcp-(13)--D-ManpNAc-(14)-L-Rha (27) is described. Key reactions are the preparation of (14)-glycosidic linkage between 2-acetamido-2-desoxy-D-mannose and L-rhamnose as well as coupling of glucose and of maltose with the disaccharide 10 as glycosyl acceptor in a (13)-glycosidic linkage.
